In Nairobi, Gjenge Makers is transforming plastic waste into ultra-strong building bricks, turning discarded bottles and bags into durable, eco-friendly paving tiles.
Founded by materials engineer Nzambi Matee, the startup melts and compresses plastics with sand to create blocks that are five to seven times stronger than concrete, yet affordable for local builders.
Every day, 500 kg of plastic is recycled into around 1,500 bricks, cleaning neighborhoods and creating jobs for women and youth. Gjenge Makers proves that innovation can build a cleaner, stronger future, brick by brick.
